Mangrove Magic: A nature-based solution for a sustainable city

The “Mangrove Magic” project revolves around harnessing wetlands, particularly mangroves, as a nature-based solution to critical environmental challenges, especially prevalent in coastal cities like Macao. It addresses issues such as climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss while prioritizing social and community engagement. Through immersive field experiences, students, staff, and local community members gain profound insights into environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

Key initiatives of this project include environmental education talks, a mobile exhibition across campuses and various public venues in Macao, and notably, the annual mangrove planting event spanning over three years. To date, we've successfully planted 2,700 mangrove seedlings in collaboration with the government, achieving an impressive 90% success rate. Moreover, we've reached over 57,000 students and community members through our diverse mangrove education efforts over the past three years, fostering a deeper understanding and commitment to environmental stewardship, working together with the government, businesses, NGOs and the local community.
