Sustainable futures - elevating tomorrow’s workforce through effective curriculum design
Trafford and Stockport College Group (TSCG), strive to raise awareness of sustainable developments throughout all staff, learners and wider communities. Together as a group we have developed a sustainability committee to drive our sustainability plan across the Group and communities we service.
Objectives
- Establish the TSCG as a sector- leading provider in the delivery of a ‘green’ curriculum.
- Deliver ethical and best practice circular economy principles in all our operational processes and practices including those delivered by third parties.
- To implement a carbon-neutral estate.
- Involving students in local forums and green initiatives in local communities to raise awareness.
- To engage with local primary and secondary schools to support projects and raise awareness of younger age groups of sustainability and its impact on the environment.
- Work with stakeholders and employers on greener futures, supporting workforce development and carbon reduction with skills at all levels for a sustainable workforce of the future.
Top 3 Learnings
- Curriculum integration and flexibility - one of the primary considerations was how to seamlessly integrate green skills into the existing curriculum across various disciplines.
- Resource allocation and training - investing in skills, equipping our teams with the necessary knowledge and skills to teach this new curriculum effectively.
- Student engagement and community involvement - fostering a sense of community involvement by organising events, competitions, and partnerships with local businesses helped to create a supportive ecosystem for sustainable initiatives.
