The University of Edinburgh recognises that our owned and managed sites encompass a range of habitats and species, with many opportunities to conserve and enhance conditions for biodiversity, outlined in the University’s Biodiversity Plan 2022. We have demonstrated our commitment by actively enhancing conditions for and promoting biodiversity on our grounds through our estate biodiversity management. We have also supported biodiversity in our local neighbourhoods and region, to improve the health and well-being of staff, students, and the wider community, through bio blitzes, green and blue space mapping and biodiversity and research partnerships with the City of Edinburgh Council and local groups.
The University was awarded gold accreditation as a Hedgehog Friendly Campus in 2022, reflecting the efforts of staff and students.
