Championing sustainability in higher and further education
Salix Finance helps universities and colleges reach their net zero goals by providing funding and expertise to decarbonise their estate and make it more energy efficient.
We’ve funded36 universities and 23 colleges through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) totalling more than £55.4m for universities and £21 million for colleges.
PSDS funding supports capital works at your institution, which can include the overhaul of a building with double glazing, insulated walls and LED lighting supported by air source heat pumps as this example from Colchester Institute shows. or it can involve improving your existing heating system and replacing an inefficient gas-fired boiler with an air source heat pump, as well as building management systems, LED lighting and a solar farm as this example from Cranfield University shows.

We’ve funded 49 universities and more than 60 colleges through the Low Carbon Skills fund, which helps higher and further education institutions start their decarbonisation journey by carrying out a carbon scoping exercise of their estate through a thorough heat decarbonisation plan. More than £5.5 million has been provided to universities and more than £1.2 million has been provided to colleges through that fund.
