Green Hub: Cultivating unconscious competence

In our commitment to advancing sustainability initiatives at our college, we established the Green Hub at our Stockwell Centre. This initiative serves as a focal point for delivering a diverse range of courses, training, and workshops related to climate change and other sustainability goals.

Equipped with sustainable furniture and cutting-edge kits such as hydroponic growing systems, renewable energy kits, and solar hydrogen technology, our primary goal is to cultivate pro-environmental behaviours amongst students and empower them with practical solutions to combat environmental problems, with a focus on global warming.

Referring to the conceptual model of skill development by Burch (1974) and by providing hands-on experiences and fostering a culture of sustainability, we aim the Green Hub project to equip our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become ‘unconsciously competent’ where the green skills become habits, without the need for specific focus or attention in building a more sustainable future.
