As part of the college priority plan for 2023/2024, we are currently delivering carbon literacy training to all our students (close to 400, 100%) aged 16-18 years. The training aims to develop students' understanding of their carbon footprint, the factors that contribute to it, and ways to reduce it.
By understanding the difference between natural and human-enhanced carbon emissions and engaging in hands-on experiences regarding how carbon emissions contribute to global warming, the training raises awareness among staff and students about the causes of climate change. By calculating their own carbon footprint, students can see the range of their carbon footprints and actively engage in discussions on reducing them.
At the end of the project, before and after assessments will enable us to see what we have achieved through our training and how we can develop and expand it further.
