Go Green for Climate Change

It is known for a fact that there is enough food produced in the world to feed everyone, yet one third of all food produced is lost or wasted - around 1.3 billion tonnes of food - costing the global economy close to USD940 billion each year. International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) recognises the importance of university experts in helping to address the issue at the national level through its rampant effort in sustainable food waste composting management.

Through the brainchild of IIUM experts, Go Green for Climate Change was initiated to uphold the University and country’s vision in adapting a sustainable future in which to help deter wasted food and its impact of greenhouse gases in the world.

This project’s aim was firstly, to treat waste generated at IIUM more efficiently using suitable waste treatment; secondly, to build a compost plant facility for organic waste treatment, especially food waste; and lastly, to produce fertiliser from the food waste composting process.
