Spreading smiles and sharing support through a Sustainable Community Mental Health Project

Mental health issues impose significant challenges in the country, with general trends underscoring the urgency of addressing these challenges among adults, especially the elderly, and single mothers. Addressing the prevalent mental health issues among this marginalized group, this collaborative project was conducted in partnership with the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM), Pahang State Fishermen's Association, Balok Village Development and Safety Committee (JPKK) Balok, and Kuantan District Social Welfare Office. Through a comprehensive approach involving psychosocial assessments, tailored treatment sessions, the development of a specialized mental health module, and training for community volunteers, the project sought to enhance the well-being and resilience of the targeted population.

Engaging 100 community members and 20 volunteers, this endeavour aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3.4, contributing to the broader objective of promoting mental health and ensuring a holistic approach to community well-being.
