Travel to AUB

The Travel to AUB portal has changed and streamlined the commuting decision process for staff members. The portal presents comprehensive travel information, ensuring staff members consider sustainable travel options even if ultimately opting to commute by car, which involves providing car details and postcode to calculate an offset and final permit cost.

The portal aligns with the Arts University Bournemouth’s (AUB) Sustainability and Net Zero Programme, encouraging commuters to adopt sustainable transportation methods and resorting to offsetting for car travel only when all alternative travel methods have been considered and not chosen. The portal provides accurate staff commuting data, including the distance of travel, and precise emissions data.

The portal not only simplifies the commuting process for staff members but also encourages them to consider more sustainable travel options. This approach aligns with our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainability. The project strikes a balance between environmental responsibility and practical necessity, fostering a culture of sustainability without imposing undue burdens.

Top 3 Learnings

  1. We need to make it as easy for staff to choose sustainable methods of transport.
  2. Granularity of data significantly improves survey results for travel.
  3. We will use offsets for net zero but need to do so with careful consideration.
