(also available to download from the foot of the page)

After a tough judging session, the applicants have been whittled down to 87 finalists across 12 categories.

This year’s UK and Ireland Green Gown Awards’ Finalists, representing over 1 million students, 172,000 staff and a combined annual turnover of £15 billion, are leading the way with their commitment to the global sustainability agenda and proving the value that universities and colleges bring to the economy and society. The Finalists emphasise an institution’s role in enabling and empowering young people to tackle pressing global issues to ensure they have a better tomorrow.

Finalist submissions range from initiatives that tackle modern slavery to Parent Power in the fight against inequality. They include a partnership with Coca Cola that saves plastic bottles by providing reusable bottles with microchips and a soft drink dispenser that senses them, and the first UK university community fridge.

We are delighted to be able to share with you a snap shot of the all the Green Gown Awards 2018 Finalists’ projects which have been put together in the Finalists’ Brochure. It is truly an inspirational read and as well as providing an overview of each project, it also includes words of advice from each institution on their top project learnings. The Awards’ ethos is to share and promote sustainability within the tertiary education sector. Apart from being of great interest, we hope it inspires you to implement similar projects at your own institutions. We wish to thank all the Finalists’ for providing this information and we wish them all the best of luck on 8 November when the winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony which takes place at the National Railway Museum in York.

Case studies and short videos/infographics are being collected from all the Finalists and we will let you know when these will be available on the Sustainability Exchange

There will also be a new twist at the prestigious Awards Ceremony. For the first time, attendees will be voting a winner for the new category ‘Outstanding Leadership Team of the Year’ live on the night!

The list of the 2018 finalists can be found below with the Finalists' Flyer and Press Release.
